The Tradition of a Trousseau

The tradition of a trousseau is age-old, when a woman began sewing clothesat an early age in anticipation of her marriage.
The word ‘trousseau’ comes from the French word ‘trousse’ meaning ‘littlebundle’.

While the concept of a trousseau is no longer practical, the idea ofshopping for your wedding night and honeymoon is still enduring and relevant. The implication is timeless! New clothes for a new life!

Depending on where your honeymoon is, you might be packing bikinis for thebeach or evening dresses for a European escape. Combine fabrics – cashmere, cotton, silk and lace – to create versatility.

Neutral-toned
Pashmina Shawl

For any trousseau and anydestination, a few pieces are essential; a lightweight cotton robe, a cashmeretwin set, a little black dress with high-heels and a neutral-toned pashminashawl and black leggings for comfort ease and practicality.

A trousseau encompasses the going away outfit, honeymoon attire and thosespecial pieces of lingerie you may have purchased for your wedding.

Although it’s unseen by most, your lingerie is actually a very significantpart of your trousseau, and should be carefully chosen.

You may like to hold a “Lingerie Party” or “Lingerie Shower” with yourfriends in the lead up to your wedding. Many Lingerie companies will come toyou with a full range and create an evening of entertainment for you and yourfriends. This can be a fun way to browse lingerie and ensure correct sizing. Inmost cases the Lingerie company will give the host free goods in return forholding the party!

Have your lingerie fitted
by an expert

Working with experienced Lingerie fitters (plus your friend’s input) canensure that you find the right lingerie for you. Lingerie can flatter yourfigure or give you a cleavage that suits your wedding gown, smooth yourstomach, back or hips.

It is important to take into account if the lingerie can be seen throughyour wedding gown as some fabrics can be clingy so something plain but made ofsilky fabric is a good choice. You should take colour into consideration aswell. Neutral colours like apricot or flesh coloured lingerie are lessobtrusive under a white wedding gown.

Choose the right bra for your gown!

Depending on the bodice of your wedding gown your choice of bra will beimportant as you do not want to be adjusting straps all day. Strapped or straplessit is a good idea to wear the bra for a day prior to your wedding to make sureyou are comfortable. Taking it to all your fittings can also ensure you have theright lingerie for the day. Most Lingerie fitters are experienced with advisingyou on the right style for your dress.

Another part of your trousseau is the Going Away Outfit. Choose an outfitthat looks glamorous and can be worn again, plus matches jewellery andaccessories that you may already have. You won’t be able to wear your weddingdress again but your Going Away Outfit can be a reminder of the special day formonths or years to come.

Beatiful Kitchen Tea Party

I came accross this beautiful kitchen tea party on Hello Naomi's blog. Naomi worked with Romi from Bo Peep Productions to create this beautiful all white afternoon tea. Naomi made lots of sweet goodies including vanilla buttercream cake, macarons, profiterols, scones and lots more. Romi styled the afternoon tea with lots of gorgeous details to make the party really special. She also had an activity for the quests - making bath tea bags. Guests could mix, blend and create their own fragrance to take home with them. What a great idea!! For more images and info head over to Hello Naomi.

Circus of Love

Collette Dinnigan showed her spring/summer 2011 ready-to-wear collection in Paris on Tuesday to a delighted crowd. The collection, Circus of Love, took inspiration from the fun, frivolity and youth of the circus. In hue's of butter cream yellow, willowy blue and pistachio through to dusty pale pink nudes, Dinnigan's asthetic harked back to the 1970's sport scene, complete with pleats and tulle.

Collette became the first Australian to start showing her ready-to-wear collection in Paris in 1995. Since then she's become, undoubtedly, Australia's finest fashion export, being stocked in the most beautiful boutiques around the world. This year is a milestone for the Collette Dinnigan label, celebrating 20 years in business in Australia, her London boutique is celebrating its 10th anniversary and it's the 15th year she's debuted a collection in Paris. A truly amazing list of achievements. Collette has boutiques in Sydney, Melbourne and London and is also stocked in selected David Jones stores. Visit www.collettedinnigan.com.au for collection and stockist details.

Hankey Blankeys

I don't know about you, but I think this is a fantastic idea - a blankey made out of hankerchiefs from Made By Mosey in Melbourne. This would make a wonderful keepsake if you asked all guests to your bridal shower to bring along a hankey as a gift. Of course, you'd need to give everyone a colour palette to ensure everything matched, but it would be a lovely way to remember everyone who shared in that day.

There are countless other beautiful and original items including ever-so-sweet mini bunting at Made by Mosey so do have a look.

One Enchanted Afternoon

If you have a copy of our current issue you would have already seen our issue #14 spring 2010 fashion feature, however if you haven't yet seen it here it is. There's something truly beautiful about black and white photos. I think our photographer Claudio Raschella captured the shoot perfectly. I love every single one of these pictures and I have to say I was estatic to hear that Collette Dinnigan was personally blown away by her gown and how we featured it. Such inspiring feedback! The lovely Chris Geracitano did such a super duper job of hair and makeup. Genius!

Take a Leaf

After making contact with a lost friend, Cath Connell, on the weekend, I was surprised to find out about her amazing new stationery business called Leaf. Cath has used her background in graphic design and paper marketing & sales to put together a great collection of products aimed at helping us record and celebrate our own personal stories.

One of the products, Girl Talk, is well suited to our wedding industry - "Gather the girls together and share your stories of love, life and fabulous shoes". The perfect idea for a fun hen's night.

Each pack of Story Starters comes with prompts to get the conversation flowing - 'The first time…', 'The most romantic…', 'In 10 years time…' - all guaranteed to get a party started.

I am in awe of Cath's achievement and wish her every success with Leaf.
